Saul visits his long-time friend and fellow Kew alumnus Jess Evans, Head Gardener at Knightshayes Court. While taking a look at the gardens, including a 2 acre Walled Kitchen Garden, Terraced Ornamental Garden and nationally significant plant collections in the Woodland Garden - they talk about the work of a Head Gardener in a large organisation such as the National Trust and how this differs from Lucy and Saul's work as private Head Gardeners.
Saul and Lucy also chat about their love for all things pruning. Focusing on early season pruning which can be done in late Winter, they look at how they manage Roses, Wisteria, Hydrangea and Fruit Trees. Although daunting for the beginner, once knowledge is put into practice and confidence is built up, pruning can be one of those essential yearly jobs that really emphasises the beauty of your garden.
